Houston Athletics released a statement about Houston's cross-country team.

The Arturo Barrios Invitational on Saturday marked the Houston cross country team’s final meet before the American Athletic Conference Championships and cemented seniors Claire Meyer and Brandon Seagraves as the Cougars’ leaders.


For the fourth consecutive meet, Meyer crossed the finish line first for the Cougars, clocking a 21-minutes, 9.9 seconds time over the 6k course at Watts ’71 Cross Country Course in College Station. Meyer finished 23rd overall in a field of 326 finishers.


Meyer led the women to a 15th-place team finish among 38 teams that produced at least five finishing competitors.


Junior Macie Ellis ran the second-fastest time of the day for the women, finishing in 22:41.2 with junior Sondos Moursy less than four seconds behind at 22:45.0.


In her first cross-country race as a Cougar, Kelly-Ann Beckford finished fourth overall for Houston, crossing the finish line at 23:10.0 over the 6k.



Next Houston will train for two weeks before attending their final American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma., in October. 29.
