Key Coogs: 19 Daniel Spencer

We continue our countdown towards the opening of the 2013 Houston Cougars pre-season camp on Saturday August 2, when the players will reprt a day before their first practice of the pre-season. With roughly three weeks remaining we will progressively get to players who will have a bigger impact on the team.
Today's installment of our Key Coogs series, sponsored by Chastang Ford, looks at the number 19 player on the list in junior receiver Daniel Spencer who has shown flashes in his first two seasons.

Spencer burst onto the Cougars' scene in 2011 as a true freshman where he showed signs of the ability he possessed, including his first catch of his career in week 2 against North Texas and his first two touchdowns.
In 2012 Spencer stepped into a more important role with the receivers and showed more signs of his potential but struggled at times catching the ball. When he did get the ball in his hands, it was awe inspiring, including his masterful catch and scamper for a touchdown against Rice that left multiple Owl defenders clutching the Reliant Stadium turf.
He was limited in his participation in the spring of 2013 following minor offseason surgery but was often seen working the "Jugs" machine to improve his pass catching abilities.
In the end, Spencer has the ability to be one of the better receivers on the staff if he sees improvement catching the ball I would look for the Cougars to try and get him the ball in more creative ways other than just passing it to him.
