Our pre-camp coverage continues today and gets past the halfway mark as we start to get into the top half of our Key Coogs series. This series has progressed over the last couple weeks taking a look at the top 25 players whose performance in 2013 will directly relate to the teams success.
The Key Coogs series, sponsored by Chastang Ford, is designed for each player lower in the countdown to me more important to the team's success and today we take a look at number 12 on the list in senior wide receiver Xavier Maxwell.
Maxwell had an odd season in 2012 appearing in only three of the first seven games of the season while battling a medical scare that landed him in the hospital. After returning, he started the final five games of the season.
The senior had his best game of the season against Marshall, only reeling in two passes but both he took to the endzone for six. He ended the season with a 17.9 yard average on his receptions to lead the team.
In the end Maxwell is a solid receiver who never fully returned to 100 percent after losing weight during his illness and returning quickly to help out with the receiver depth as others also went down during the season.
Maxwell should be one of the four starters when the Cougars take the field in a little over the month and he will be primed to live up to the potential that convinced the Cougars to bring him in in the first place.
