Houston football made it look like a breeze in the team’s demolishing of East Carolina, making it work on both sides of the ball for a 42-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina.
Both teams entered this game with a 6-4 record in conference play, but Houston started the game off strong against an ECU team that looked like they were playing in the mud. Houston didn’t allow ECU to get their defense rolling not for one second. The secondary looked terrible against UH who took full advantage of this each time Tune zoned in on Tank Dell. Dell was targeted 11 times and often left wide open, resulting in two touchdowns and 176-yards.
After halftime, the Cougars kept the ball rolling solid and steady, leading Matthew Golden to a touchdown catch allowing Houston to run off to the races from East Carolina. Golden, finished with eight receptions for 127 yards and caught two 26-yard touchdown throws from Tune in the third quarter. Clayton Tune completed 32 of 44 passes for 435 yards and four touchdowns
With the win, UH improves to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in American Athletic Conference play, keeping the Cougars mathematically alive in the race for a spot in the conference championship game.
This win is Houston's 50th American Athletic Conference victory, helping the Cougars join UCF (57) and Cincinnati (54) as the only programs to reach the milestone.
