Half Pound Burgers and a 'Movie Like' Feel Highlight Levi Williams' Visit

Canyon Lake (TX) Smithson Valley quarterback Levi Williams took another step toward his future on Friday when the Rivals three-star quarterback hosted Houston head coach Major Applewhite and associate head coach and offensive coordinator Kendal Briles for his in-home visit.

Applewhite and Briles made a three and a half hour trip west to Spring Branch (TX) to Richter's Antler Cafe, which is a home style country cafe about five minutes down the road from Smithson Valley High School and has a menu that features everything from frog legs to chicken fried steak and of course the local favorite The Richter Burger, which is a half-pound burger that includes the options for bacon, cheese and an egg on top.

Briles and Applewhite met Levi Williams at the Antler Cafe around lunch time. Williams was joined by his parents Todd and Sherie Williams. The group placed their orders and everyone settled in. Williams along with both Applewhite and Briles each ordered the Richter Burger, Briles opted for the addition Bacon and Williams elected to add Bacon and Egg to his. Then it was down to business and the reason the two were in town.

Applewhite and Briles spent a good portion of the afternoon visiting with the Smithson Valley standout. After the Burgers it was time for the in-home portion of the visit as the coaches continued to talk with the blossoming young quarterback well into the afternoon.

The talented signal caller has been committed to Houston since February, so this visit was really more of a formality than an actual sales pitch for the Houston staff, but that didn't stop the two Cougar coaches from showing Williams and his parents exactly how important he was as a member of their 2019 recruiting class.

"It honestly felt like a movie," Williams told Cougars Den following the visit. "It was all smiles the whole time and I couldn't imagine it being any better."

The coaches stayed and visited with Williams for a few hours, making the three-plus hour trip well worth it.

"We talked about our days and our families but then we talked about the future," Williams added. There's a lot of great things to come from Houston."

The bond has been growing since Briles' January trip to Smithson Valley where he talked to head coach Larry Hill and initially identified a lean skinny kid that at that time wasn't really getting a lot of attention on the recruiting trail. That January trip would ultimately lead to Williams being the first quarterback offered by Briles for the class of 2019 and shortly after a commitment to Houston.

Fast forward nearly eleven months later and that once skinny kid is now 6-foot-5 and 225-pounds and working hard to prepare himself for the collegiate game, he continues to work out and the bond he's built with Briles and Applewhite has only grown stronger since his commitment nine months ago.

"The whole family trusts UH whole heartedly," Williams said of his family's relationship with the Houston staff. "We couldn't think of better hands to put me in for the next four to five years."

When he's not working out or chatting up Houston coaches, Williams puts on his recruiting cap and actively tries to sell the opportunities at the University of Houston with hopes to lure other Cougar targets to Cullen Boulevard.

"I've talked to a bunch of recruits and we've even made a group chat to keep in touch, Williams said."

As far as who he's targeting, his effort doesn't lack there either... "Everyone UH has offered," Williams said of which prospects he's been working on.

Williams wouldn't share any specifics but he says he feels pretty good about Houston's chances with some of the uncommitted prospects he's been recruiting.

"I feel like on the two signing days, everyone is in for a surprise," the quarterback commit turned recruiter said."

Williams remains one of the most solid commits I've seen in quite some time, he's doing all the right things on and off the field and should arrive on campus eager and ready to work.

Houston fans can look forward to their future Coog signing during the early signing period as Williams plans to sign his LOI on Dec. 19 and enroll in classes on Jan. 8.
