“Take the win and get out of there,” head coach Dana Holgorsen told the media after Saturday night’s win. The Houston Cougars had an eventful Saturday which led to the team defeating East Carolina 31-24 after facing a five-hour weather delay. Today coach Holgorsen addressed the team's win and this week’s upcoming game in his weekly presser.
Holgorsen told the press, “I think we are a little rusty coming off a 16-day break but we still had team meetings and workouts yesterday because it’s still business as usual. The guys are tired but we treated yesterday like any practice coming off of a road game”
But Saturday’s game is all water under the bridge as Holgorsen is more worried about the team facing an undefeated SMU in a primetime game.
When asked about the upcoming game against SMU Holgorsen expressed his excitement about the rivalry and his players.
“It’s a meaningful game, a lot of ball left to be played afterward so it won’t be the end all be all. But both teams are undefeated in the AAC conference and many schools can’t say that, they’re good they have good players and staff. I can’t wait to play I’m excited about it, it’s pretty awesome a Texas rivalry will be a primetime game.”
The Cougars are (6-1) and SMU is (7-0) making the teams two of the league’s (ACC) three unbeaten in conference play on Saturday.
Houston will host SMU at TDECU Stadium on October 30.
