Cougars Top Ragin' Caguns

The Houston Cougars improves to 29-19 by defeating Louisiana 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. John King pitched 6 and 1/3rd innings giving up one run on six hits and had three strikeouts.

The Cougars managed three runs off of five hits and held onto a one run lead in the eighth-inning to secure a victory.

Take a look at what happened inning by inning.

First-inning : John King made quick work get the Ragin' Cajuns down 1-2-3 in the top of the first. The Cougars went down in order 1-2-3.

Second-inning: King gave up back-to-back singles with two outs to the Ragin' Cajuns, but was able to get out of the jam with a 6-3 routine play. Connor Wong walked for the Cougars first base runner of the game. Wong stole second and the next pitch Josh Vidales smacked a RBI single to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Third-inning: King gets another strikeout and is helped out by his defense for another 1-2-3 inning. Cougars were unable to get any offense going in the bottom half, but still have a 1-0 lead.

Fourth-inning: King gives up a single and hits a batter, but gets his third strikeout to retire the side. Corey Julks hit a blooper to center field and stole second base for the Cougars. Connor Hollis smacked a RBI single to bring in Julks. After a balk Houston had runners on second and third base. Houston left them on base and led 2-0.

Fifth-inning: King's defense stepped up with a 6-4-3 double play and a 6-4 out to end the side.Joe Davis laced a RBI double to left field to bring home Michael Pyeatt to take a 3-0 lead after five-innings.

Sixth-inning: King continues his dominance by going 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth. Cougars offense went down 1-2-3 in the bottom half.

Seventh-inning: King struggled and loaded the bases. The Ragin' Cajuns capitalized and scored on a hit batsman and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to one. Houston loaded the bases with two outs, but Corey Julks struck out as the inning ended.

Eighth-inning: The Ragin' Cajuns managed one hit and didn't score in the inning to get back into the game. The Cougars didn't manage any offense in the bottom half.

Ninth-inning: Nick Hernandez closed out the the Ragin' Cajuns with two pop outs and a strikeout to end the game and a Cougar victory.
