Vaughn Talks Top Three

Last weekend, one of the top prospects in Central Texas decided to trim his list down to three, which provided the Cougars with a bit of good news over the weekend as they made the cut for Rivals.com three-star safety Garrison Vaughn.

With the Belton (TX) standout narrowing down his alternatives to a main three that incorporates Houston, Tulsa and Air Force, the Cougars are squeezing hard to land this gem from the class of 2018.

With Vaughn's enthusiasm for Houston, how precisely did Houston make his main three?

“They win," the 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back said. "That's really one of the main things I was looking at when I narrowed it down. I want to go somewhere and win games.”

Thoughts on Houston

“UH wins and has built a great consistent program over the years, they also have the best NFL pipeline between my top three but [Houston] does have the weakest education of my three. During my visit it just felt at home."

Houston defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio who has a past filled with creating amazing prospects for defense and in fact will have a major part in pursuing Vaughn with the expectation that he could be one of the next in line, should the Cougars be able to cull him all the way from Central Texas.

Thoughts on Air Force

“Great football and great education.”

Thoughts on Tulsa

“Tulsa and I have built a great bond through the last year with them being my first offer and they also win a lot of games but they lack on facilities and that worries me.”

As it stands now, Vaughn doesn't anticipate making any more visits to Air Force or Tulsa but his close proximity to the Houston campus could have him back on Cullen boulevard in the near future. He expressed a desire to spend more time around the Houston football team, which is something he hasn't experienced yet.

It will be interesting to see how the next several months unfold for Vaughn's recruitment, but all indications are that Houston will be a major player when it comes to trying to secure his services and should be in the mix down to when the Central Texas standout makes his final decision.
