It Was Always Houston for Clear Spring WR Peyton Sawyer
The Houston Cougars recently landed a string of summer commitments that saw them reel in four pledges at the receiver position. League City (TX) wide receiver Peyton Sawyer gave his pledge to join the Coogs, joining the likes of Malik Jackson and Henry Thomas for the 2018 class. The talented trio was eventually joined by the commitment of the fourth receiver in Ja'Kori Morgan.
Standing at 5-foot-11, with offers from Houston, Arizona State, Texas State, Texas Tech, Tulane, and Tulsa, Sawyer opted to end his recruitment and commit to The University of Houston.
Like most, family is a tremendous thing in Sawyer's life and that is precisely what played a key part in picking where he would eventually decide to further his education and and Houston's close proximity to that of his family was another deciding factor in Houston landing his pledge.
“I have to have my family there watching and supporting me at all games, that’s a must," the League City (TX) Clear Springs standout said.
Once he knew that Houston was the place for him, he picked up the phone and made the call that would ultimately impact the next forty years of his life.
On the other end of the line it was new Houston wide receivers coach Kenny Guiton who answered... “I’m going to put on for the city of Houston," an excited Sawyer told his future position coach.
With his decision made this future Coog is wasting no time getting familiar with his future teammates as he’s already focused on getting to know the Houston quarterbacks.
“My dad played quarterback at [Texas] A&M so he knows what a quarterback should and shouldn’t do," Sawyer said. "By saying that, I am able to know the consistency of their throws because I need them in order to succeed in my position. I’ve honestly always wanted to play for Houston and represent my hometown.”
Sawyer is planning to major in business administration and when football comes to an end, he intends to utilize his capacities and start his own company some day after graduation.
