Houston has parted ways with head coach Dana Holgorsen

Houston is now on the hunt for a new head coach after five seasons with Dana Holgorsen totaling a 31-28 record.

Back in 2021, Holgorsen led Houston to a 12-2 record and appearance in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game and No. 17 AP Top 25 finish. Leading many to believe that all was bright at Houston, especially after an invitation to the Big 12.

That is until the bottom began to fall out.

The Cougars were looking to build a competitive roster especially with the once aggressive defense the team had. But a lack of recruiting and a dependence on the transfer portal by Holgorsen may have also led to his demise.

Holgorsen signed a contract extension in 2022 that increased his pay to $4.5 million per season. After being terminated, Holgorsen is now owed a buyout of nearly $15 million leaving Houston on a coaching search to close the season.
