Houston and Texas A&M met for the 174th time in the history of the programs

Monday Houston Baseball started their four-game road trip at Texas A&M and Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

Houston and Texas A&M met for the 174th time in the history of the programs Tuesday. Texas A&M leads the all-time series 114-58-1. Over the last nine matchups, the Aggies lead the series 5-4 (2011-present) including a 9-4 win a season ago. The teams have met six times in the NCAA Tournament, splitting the matchups, 3-3.

Houston ranks second in The American in triples (5), stolen bases (22), and walks allowed per nine innings (3.26). The Cougars are third in fielding percentage (.980).

On Tuesday Houston Baseball exploded for five runs in the eighth inning, including four with two outs, overtaking Texas A&M as part of an 8-2 win on Tuesday night from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Cougars trailed 2-1 entering the eighth before erupting for four hits while sending all nine hitters to the plate. Alex Lopez tied the game on an RBI single and Samuel Benjamin put Houston (11-6) on top with a dribbler to third base, resulting in an infield RBI single.

Houston shortstop Ian McMillan added insurance, clearing the bases with a three-run triple into right field. The Cougars put together 12 hits including batting .375 (6-for-16) with runners in scoring position. Zach Arnold and Lopez added three hits each.

The Cougars return home Friday to face Columbia in the first of three games. Friday is "713 Night" at the ballpark where fans can buy $7 tickets at the box office and take advantage of $7.13 Tex-Mex Nachos at the concession stand. Saturday’s matchup is set for 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s finale gets underway at 1 o’clock.
