Game Balls: UAB

Following each game CougarsDen.com will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Houston's 39-17 victory over UAB on Saturday afternoon.
Phillip Steward: The senior linebacker was all over the field for the Houston defense. Steward had 13 Tackles, four tackles-for-loss, two-and-half sacks and continued to show his exceptional coverage skills as he intercepted a pass on a UAB trick play in which he made an excellent leaping grab. Steward earns the CougarsDen.com MVP of the day.

D.J. Hayden: The senior defensive back was solid in coverage throughout the game for the Cougars. He contributed 9 tackles, had a couple of key pass breakups including shutting down a hitch route on 4th and two for UAB. Hayden also recovered a fumble that Houston would capitalize on extending the lead to 33-10 at that point.
Charles Sims: The redshirt junior had another strong night with a steady workload yet again. Sims rushed for his third straight 100-yard performance with 133 yards on 26 rushing attempts. The Cougars are now 6-0 when Sims rushes for more than 100 yards.
Shane Ros: The junior receiver came up huge for the Cougars for the second straight week. Ros made several key plays and has turned into a very dependable target for quarterback David Piland. He finished the day with a team leading seven receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown.
Matt Hogan: The senior placekicker had a career night for Houston, breaking both a school record and Conference USA record with six field goals. Hogan converted six-of-seven field goal attempts with a long of 52 yards, responsible for nearly half of Houston's 39 points.
