Following each game CougarsDen.com will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Houston's 41-7 loss to Tulsa on Saturday.
D.J. Hayden: CougarsDen extends an honorary game ball to senior standout D.J. Hayden who suffered a near fatal injury in practice last week and remains hospitalized. The injury Hayden suffered was 95-percent fatal in the field but the tough senior overcame the odds. Thoughts and prayers continue to go out to D.J. and his family.
Everett Daniels: The senior linebacker finished the game with a game-high 18 tackles, one tackle-for-loss and a sack for a loss of three yards. Daniels was all over the field tonight for Houston and stepped up in the absence of his teammate.
Phillip Steward: The senior linebacker has been one of the more consistent playmakers on the Houston defense through 2012 and this week was no different. Steward finished with 13 tackles, one tackle-for-loss and a forced fumble.
Trevon Stewart: The true freshman from Patterson (LA) continues his exceptional freshman campaign with another standout performance for Houston. Since his move to safety Stewart has been a tackling machine and another strong performance on Saturday night finishing with 12 tackles which places him tops on the team with 106 total tackles on the year.
