Thursday Houston’s very own Damarion Williams will play in the East-West Shrine Bowl game on the West Team. The East-West Shrine Bowl is a postseason college football all-star game that has been played annually since 1925.
Williams was one of the most versatile players in coach Doug Belk’s secondary, while Williams played the majority of his snaps as an outside corner, he still garnered snap as a safety and a slot corner. Williams ended his college season after playing in the AAC championship game against Cincinnati.
“ It’s a great feeling the main goal was to go to the championship and it felt good, And I am definitely excited about the East-West game to represent the UH Cougars and to go out there and do my thing,” Williams told Cougars Den.
Williams finished this past season with 57 tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, and eight pass deflections. He also has special teams value as a punt returner. Williams has also been invited to this year’s 2022 NFL Combine.
“It’s a blessing I don’t know all of the ins and out’s because I’ve never been but I’m excited,” Williams said when he was asked about his recent invitation.
The two-time Houston captain is also training quite a bit for the next level which he said was mostly track practice to change his speed, this should make watching Williams's 40-yard dash exciting in the combine.
Houston’s defense is losing key starters to the draft and eligibility including Williams but with coach Holgorsen’s recruiting all is not lost.
“You can bet on coach Holgorsen to bring the team back together and the defense to still l do what they do Jackboys are still there.”
The game is on Feb. 3 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will be aired on NFL Network at 7 p.m. CT.
