Cougars Suffer Blowout Loss
The Cougars were back in action Thursday evening as they traveled to Louisville to take on head coach Rick Pitino and the 18th ranked Cardinals. Both squads came into Thursday's matchup as winners of three of their last four, but the Coogs were overmatched from the jump against last year's National Champion Cardinals.
The Cardinals came into Thursday night's ballgame looking for blood, and they managed to find it early and often as they jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back.
Louisville junior forward Wayne Blackshear came off the bench and had a career-high 23 points, while nabbing seven boards, and managing to go five of six from the 3-point line to lead all scorers. Louisville's leading scorer on the season Russ Smith chipped in with 18 points of his own to help hand the Cougar's their second straight loss.
The Cardinals were without their starting point guard Chris Jones going into the matchup, but freshman guard Terry Rozier managed play well in the loss coming up with a near double-double with nine points and eight assists. The Cougar's TaShawn Thomas came into the Thursday night's game off of a near double-double effort of his own last time out in the heartbreaking loss to Cincinnati. Thomas finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds on six of 11 shooting from the in loss to the Cardinals.
The Cougars also welcomed back sophomore forward Daniel House and guard L.J. Rose Thursday in Kentucky, as both returned from injuries, but neither had a good game in their return to the hardwood and didn't really factor much into the decision.
The Cougar's are back in action in Houston this Saturday at noon hosting conference mate Rutgers. They hope to get back into the win column against the Scarlet Knight's who are coming off a win against Central Florida on Wednesday.
