Grading The Team: RBs
Now that the Houston Cougars' regular season has concluded, the team will begin their preparation for the January 4 BBVA Compass Bowl Game, their eighth bowl game since 2003.
As the team begins it's workout this week, CougarsDen will continue it's look at how each position group fared during the Cougars regular season and give each position group a grade.
Today we continue the series with a look at the running backs which saw some ups-and-downs during the 2013 season and will return just about all of it's pieces in 2014.
For the most part the Cougars were a two-headed monster at running back as redshirt sophomore Kenneth Farrow and true sophomore Ryan Jackson handled the lions share of the carries in 2013.
Farrow missed a two games early on in the Cougars after suffering an ankle injury in the Cougars second game of the season against Temple. In the time he was in action he rushed for a 5.1 yards per rush average and totaled 486 on the season with five touchdowns. Jackson, who appeared in every contest, averaged 4.8 yards per carry and finished the regular season at 655 yards and six touchdowns.
The two also played a role in the passing game with catching 25 passes for 270 yards and a pair of scores while Farrow finished with 24 catches for 113 yards and a score.
Other than those two Justin Hicks and Kent Brooks filled in at times with the two combining for 39 carries, 165 yards and three scores.
The unit as a whole had a few games where they performed very well and helped the Cougars controll the pace of the game but also had a few games where they disappeared. In total a grade of C probably best fits their production during the regular season.
