Key Coogs: #8 Bryce Redman
The start of the Houston Cougars' pre-season camp is starting to draw very near now as players will report in just 10 days and the first practice of the camp will follow the next day. By now, either they have put in the work to be ready to compete or they haven't, only they and the coaches will be able to tell.
The end of our Key Coogs series, sponsored by Chastang Ford, is also drawing to it's close as well. We have made it through 17 of the 25 players now and everyone at this point will be very important keys to the Cougars success in the upcoming season.
Today we move forward with number eight on the list in junior offensive center Bryce Redman who enters 2013 as the starter for the first time at center, but doesn't come in without experience after coming in early in the 2012 season and holding on to the starting role for most of the season.
Redman who has got to be the strongest player on the team took over in game three last season and proved to be the consistency at center that head coach Tony Levine was looking for.
Prior to last season Redman saw time as the back-up center and came in during jumbo sets for the Cougars as an extra blocker, usually in goal line situations. For his efforts in 2012 after taking over the starting role, Redman was a Conference USA Honorable Mention selection.
The biggest reason for his selection so high on our countdown is the importance fir quality and consistency from the position in 2013. As was evident last season, the center is generally not noticed until things begin to go wrong. Redman came in and was solid influence on the line after he took over. It also allowed teammate Kevin Forsch to move over to solidify the guard spot.
