Young Guns: Adrian McDonald
We continue to work our way towards the opening of the 2013 Houston Cougars summer pre-season camp, taking a look at a number of players on the team that are likely to make an impact on the performance.
In addition to our Key Coogs series that is also running, we are also using this, the Young Guns series to look at players who are redshirt sophomores or younger who will also see the field a considerable amount in the 2013 football season.
We continue our look at the young standouts with a closer inspection of sophomore safety Adrian McDonald who did not enter 2012 as a starter but definitely ended it as one.
After injuries in the defensive backfield forced McDonald into action at safety , along side fellow true freshman Trevon Stewart, the talented former quarterback consistently got better as the season wore on.
He did a great job of forcing turnovers, causing four in his first season including two interceptions and two forced fumbles, and had an 11-tackle game against Marshall near the end of the season.
What McDonald brings to the defensive backfield is good coverage ability and the athleticism to make plays that other safeties may not be able to make. Although he showed steady improvement throughout the season, he was still likely adjusting and could see more improvement in year two for the Cougars.
