Daniels Ready For Week Two
The Houston Cougars got off to a difficult start last Saturday at Robertson Stadium as they fell to visiting Texas State in underwhelming fashion. The Bobcats came into town as heavy undoes and left holding one of the biggest upset victories in recent memory.
If there were a few silver linings in the stormy clouds for the Cougars it was the improvements the defense made in the second half, holding the Bobcats to just a field goal.
One player that was in the starting line-up for the first time was senior middle linebacker Everett Daniels who admits the disappointment with the result but stresses that the team's goals have not changed.
"Our goals are still the same, to win a conference championship," he said. "We haven't even played in any conference games yet so we lost one game, it happens."
One stat that jumped off the box score was the time of possession that had the Cougars defense on the field for roughly 44 minutes of the game.
"We were out there a long time but we can't be frustrated by it," said Daniels. "We all go through times where we have ups and downs. There have been times where we have been down and they (the offense) have brought us back, we are a team."
Daniels also admitted that his first start didn't go as he expected it to but that he was still excited for his next opportunity agains Louisiana Tech this week.
"It wasn't as good as I thought I was going to play, I had to get used to it," he said. "This week I'll be ready to do something."
The Cougars get a chance to put one of the most tumultuous weekends in memory behind them Saturday night against the visiting Bulldogs. Kick-off is set for 7:00 PM at Robertson Stadium.
