As has been the case over the last few years the Cougars targeted some of the top talent in Louisiana for the 2012 class and one of the top players they came away with was Patterson cornerback Trevon Stewart..





In today's initial installment of this year's "Getting to Know" series we take a look at Stewart who was arguably the vocal leader of the 2012 signing class...

WHAT'S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM YOUR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CAREER?



"My most memorable moments from my high school career is when me and my team went to the state championship."



DO YOU HAVE A PRE-GAME RITUAL?




"I always call my parents, then I get focused and dont talk to anyone, and on the field while warming up I talk to myself."




AT WHAT POINT DID YOU REALIZE THAT YOU HAD THE ABILITY TO PLAY D-I FOOTBALL?




"I realized it in ninth grade when I came in and took a 3 years starter spot at safety and only being a freshman and played both sides of the ball."




WHAT POSITION WILL YOU BE PLAYING AT HOUSTON?

ARE YOU EXPECTING TO REDSHIRT YOUR FIRST SEASON ON-CAMPUS?



"No I am not expecting to redshirt my freshman year, I am expecting to come in and compete for a starting spot and be a threat on the field to opposing teams."



WHAT IS ONE THING THAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON IN ORDER TO PLAY AT THE NEXT
LEVEL?



"One thing I need to work on is my speed and just all around game, I think its important to work things that you are both good at and also things you are not good at."



BESIDES FOOTBALL, WHAT ELSE ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO AT HOUSTON?



"I'm also looking foward to going to the basketball games since Danuel House and Chicken Knowles are going to be playing, thats something to watch!"

"My favorite food is all of Louisiana food! (laughing)"

"Most people just call me Tre not Trevon."

"I will major in kinesiology with a focus in sports administration."

"I dont have a favorite movie, but I love scary movies and comedies."

WHAT ONE THING WAS THE DETERMINING FACTOR IN YOUR DECISION?




"The determining factor for me was the chance of early playing time, the new coaching staff, players on the team and cant forget the awesome fans!"





IS THERE A HOUSTON COACH THAT YOU FEEL ESPECIALLY CLOSE TO?




"Yes, I feel especially close with coach Spav, we've had a good relationship since we've met and he is expecting alot out of me and wants me to be great."



WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT DURING THE RECRUITING PROCESS?



"My favorite moment during the recruiting process was going to the games and people coming up to me saying they cant wait until I get to UH."



DID YOU MAKE FRIENDS WITH ANY CURRENT PLAYERS OR OTHER INCOMING FRESHMAN DURING THE PROCESS?




"Yes I have made alot of friends with current players and incoming freshman, some of the incoming freshman and I have built great relationships."



WHAT SCHOOL WOULD YOU HAVE CHOSEN IF YOU HADN'T SIGNED WITH THE COUGARS?



"I would have chose the Clemson Tigers if i didnt chose Houston."





The future and goals:



WHAT NUMBER WOULD YOU LIKE TO WEAR AT HOUSTON?



"I will be wearing number seven, I talked to Case Keenum about it and he said he thinks I should get seven, so I think it's an honor."



WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL GOAL FOR THIS SEASON?




"My personal goal for the season is to hopefully get Freshman All-Conference and Freshman All-American like Derrick Mathews did."



WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY ANYTHING TO THE HOUSTON FANS?



"The only thing I would like to say to the Houston fans is we are gonna make major moves these next few years so be ready and come to every single game and be LOUD!!! I LOVE THEM!!"
