Game Balls: BBVA Compass Bowl
Following each game CougarsDen.com will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Houston's 41-24 loss to Vanderbilt in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
Steven Taylor - The redshirt freshman linebacker paced the team with 11.5 total tackles Saturday including 3.5 tackles-for-loss. He capped a tremendous first season and appears set as a solid part in the defense moving forward.
Markeith Ambles - The first year player finally showed up Saturday and he showed up big, catching six passes for a team high 105 yards and a score. When the defense was focusing on Deontay Greenberry he became a viable second option.
Richie Leone - The senior punter capped his Houston carrer with yet another solid game. With 10 punts on the day he finished with a 43.6 average with a long of 55. Due to field position he wasn't able to pin many inside the 20 as he has all season but had a solid final game.
Demarcus Ayers - The true freshman continued to show his ability to make a big impact in the return game, nearly breaking off a touchdown run on a kick-off in the second half. He also caught a couple passes as his involvement in the offense continued to increase.
Joey Mbu - The big junior may have had his best game of the season. He was able to consistently get into the backfield and cause problems for the Vanderbilt offense.
The bowl game officially wraps up the Cougars season for 2013 and now they head into the offseason looking to improve on a solid season.
