Following each game CougarsDen.com will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Houston's 25-215 win over Memphis Saturday afternoon.
Richie Leone - The do-it-all senior had six punts for a 47 yard average including four inside the 20 which helped Houston remain close while the offense was struggling to get going. He also had a 24 yard field goal and two extra points.
Derrick Mathews - Mathews continued his often overlooked run of dominating performances. The defensive captain had 10 tackles on the day and a very big two fumble recoveries.
Efrem Oliphant - The emergent senior linebacker also continued his tremendous start to the season on the defensive side of the ball with 13 tackles to pace all defenders in the game.
Kenneth Farrow - Although the stat sheet for Farrow is not gaudy, he had a solid game from a production standpoint in his first game back since week two. Farrow had two rushing touchdowns and the two point conversion in the third quarter to put Houston for good.
David Gibbs - I don't often hand them out to coaches but could not keep from pointing out what a great job Gibbs and his staff did Saturday, specifically in the second half. Memphis' last five possessions were limited to 72 total yards and no points.
Next up for the Cougars will be next Saturday's game with BYU at Reliant Stadium, which is scheduled for a 2:30 PM kick-off.
