Game Balls: UTSA
Following each game CougarsDen.com will recognize the standout performers by handing out our game balls. Here are the game balls from Houston's 59-28 road win over UTSA Saturday afternoon.
John O'Korn - The young true freshman is coming along nicely and has noticeable improvement each week. Although I think the staff, and fan base, would like for him to slide a little more I remember a time when Case Keenum did the same thing. It is tough for a player like that to turn the competitiveness off when he is running down the field. He finished with 24 of 36 passing for 312 yards and four touchdowns. He also had no turnovers.
Deontay Greenberry - It is starting to become a regular occurrence for Greenberry now with his third consecutive big game. He had nine catches for 149 yards and a score and more importantly he has developed a tremendous rapport with O'Korn. Those two could be doing this for a few more years together.
B.J. Singleton - Singleton had a tremendous game and directly accounted for two second half turnovers when the game was very much in doubt still. He had the key blocked field goal and a very big interception. The redshirt freshman has been improving as well each week and has helped anchor a much improved defensive line group.
Efrem Oliphant - Oliphant and the other starting linebackers had another tremendous game with all three landing in the top five tacklers for the team. Oliphant led the team with 11 stops and had another one of the big fourth quarter turnovers with a fumble recovery.
Xavier Maxwell - Although Maxwell's stats for the game will not jump off the page, other than the obvious two touchdowns, he had a solid game with three catches for 42 yards. His two touchdown catches were both very athletic plays where he made big adjustments on the ball while it was in the air, one a semi-errant pass from O'Korn and the other a ball that was tipped by defender.
Next up for the Cougars will be the October 12 game with Memphis at BBVA Compass Stadium after a bye week next week..
