As the calendar inches closer to the start of the Houston Cougars pre-season camp that will be the final opportunity for the staff and players to prepare for their Inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference, we also inch closer to the end of our pre-camp coverage.
We have our Key Coogs series running, looking at key players for the Cougars whose performance will impact the success of the team in 2013 and we also have this series, our Young Guns series looking at players who are redshirt sophomores and younger and will play key roles in the upcoming season.
Our series continues today with a look at a true freshman, in receiver D'Juan Hines who graduated early and enrolled at Houston in January which allowed him to go through spring practice. The early experience he got early in the year will allow him to see the field in his first season on campus.
Hines who was a standout as the quarterback for the Spring (TX) Dekaney team that won the state title in 2011, briefly flirted with the idea of continuing to pursue his quarterback role at the collegiate level but quickly decided his quickest option to tsee the field would be at the receiver position.
Hines will enter camp listed second in the slot position behind sophomore Deontay Greenberry who is a similar receiver. Both should be successful with the move inside with early looks in the spring showing the Cougars' intentions with the bigger inside receivers.
Hines' tall frame and sure hands should help him make an immediate impact with the Cougars in 2013 and could lead to a very long prosperous career on Cullen Blvd.
